Black Friday: the origins of a tradition

We are back in 1924 in United States; more precisely in the Big Apple, New York.

The great born in the distribution chain 1858, Macy’s, is organizing a parade the day after Thanksgiving that, as known, It is celebrated in the US on the fourth Thursday of November.

The grand parade is held to celebrate the start of the Christmas period and shopping.

From this moment the beginning of the Christmas period is enshrined in the so-called Black Friday, which is then celebrated on the fourth Friday of November.

Origin of the name

There are two main theories regarding the origins of this particular expression.

The most common belief is that the name Black Friday should its origins to the city of Philadelphia. This expression would indicate Great traffic and road congestion that develops that day through the streets of the city, precisely at the beginning more or less official holiday shopping.

Others report the origins to the books of traders, who used to mark in red and losses Black gains.

And what happens in this particular Friday of November?

The race discounts

Eccolo, It came the long-awaited day for many.

The shops are ready to welcome famished masses of discounts that take to the streets, davanti alle vetrine e nei centri commerciali alla ricerca dell’unmissable deal.

All the brands have reserved great promotions at the fateful day: fashion brands offer discounts and prezzacci, technology companies selling off products usually very expensive and lately even restaurants offer affordable menus dedicated to the big event promotions.

Surely you know what I'm talking

You will have seen some news reports in which you can see races worthy of marathon runners and punches able to stand up to the great Rocky Balboa in front of the latest discounted PC or a pair of shoes at half price, quite right?

Because yes, just this is an annual celebration; a veritable gold rush that does not wait for latecomers and rewards faster.

Dagli Stati Uniti all’ Europa

As we have seen, Black Friday is rooted in the United States in the late 20.

Molto velocemente però questa tradizione cominciò a interessare anche l’Europa, and in less than no time even France, Germany, England, The Netherlands and most of the Western states became part of the consumer the most popular celebration.

Lo stesso di può dire per l’Italy that increasingly develops a great economic movement around the Black Friday. The involvement of traders in each sector is increasingly felt. A large amount of consumers goes in search of business cheaper.
